Exporting Textures from Maya?

How do you export a texture from Maya? I got this sledgehammer that I made textures for, but I got alot of separate textures for separate parts. How do you make it into one single texture file?

RE: Exporting Models from Maya?

File -> Export All

File type: DAE_FBX export

This will export your model as a .dae which can then be imported to the ModelEditor and saved as an entity, or placed in the LevelEditor as a static object. Enjoy Big Grin

By the way, if your model is of quality, share it on the Showcase forums! People are always excited and look forward to seeing new models!

RE: Exporting Models from Maya?

I tried that, but I didn't find DAE_FBX. I need to search for a plugin I guess.

RE: Exporting Models from Maya?

Hmm.. I downloaded and installed FBX plugin for Maya x64. Still, I cannot see the plugin :|

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong place?

Edit: I found out it was deactivated by Maya so I had to reactivate the script. Thx
Edit2: I got this error while exporting:

Need help here =<

Edit3: I also noticed, when exporting a non-textured model, it works just fine, but if I import it into the ModelEditor, it doesn't show up.

RE: Exporting Models from Maya?

Dunno, man :S I'll give it a search or two tomorrow, I have a final exam tomorrow in the morning so it's bed time for me! Keep at it though, modelling work is greatly needed in this community Big Grin

RE: Error when exporting model from Maya

Hmm.. I noticed it was just invisible in the model editor.

Now I'm wondering how to make a DDS file of a whole textured object. I mean, I got multiple textures for separate parts and I need to make it into one file.

RE: Exporting Textures from Maya?

You need to make it in 1 unwrap so you can use 1 single texture sheet.
But, if it's a more complex model, it can actually be better to use 2 or more smaller textures instead of 1 big one. I'm not sure if Amnesia supports this though.

RE: Exporting Textures from Maya?

Well, it's not that much of a complex model. It's just a sledgehammer with some rings as details.
I don't know how to make an unwrapped texture sheet though.

RE: Exporting Textures from Maya?

You can do separate textures, similar to the grunt. Just save the texture with the prefix of the object name (ie: grunt's hair in the model is named "hair", so it's texture is named "servant_grunt_hair.dds").

If you want to unwrap it all and make it a single texture, just copy and paste all the textures and make a single dds file with it, just place the textures somewhere in the square to take up as much space as possibe (the texture should have dimensions of pow2). Then you can edit the UV by going to "window" on the top, and then "UV texture editor".

PS: Don't use FBX Dae, it's not opencollada and it has a lot of compatability issues.
