RE: Most memorable sound
The tinnitus-like sound in torture chambers is pretty memorable too, I wonder what triggers it...

RE: Most memorable sound
I have a few:
  • The whimpering (unique) Sound of a Grunt in the Archives (kinda sounds like a Cow)
  • The tortured Dogs in the Study
  • The footsteps you hear in the Wine Cellar (always unnerving, even if you know nowbody is there)
Also, i love the SFX in the Machine Room, just Clogs ticking, doing their thing while the Shadow reclaims everything...

RE: Most memorable sound
I haven't played the game the whole way through yet (currently trying to navigate the sewers), but from where I've been so far, I'd say either the terror meter or the Grunt presence music (dan_grunt). Oh, and the sounds the waterlurker makes. Just hearing splashes makes me imagine the flooded Archives. And now I'm thinking about it, Alexander's experiments on dogs was horrible to listen to.

Because I like scaring myself (hence why I'm playing Amnesia), I've managed to convert .ogg files to MP4 and then to MPEG so I can sync them to my iPod, and I completely intend to listen to dan_grunt (among a few others) in bed. I'm tempted to use GarageBand to be able to make sound files overlap and create a sort of audible Amnesia level that I could listen to whenever.

(I would post a link for the .ogg conversion software, but as I'm on a Mac I don't suppose the one I used would be particularly helpful to most people. A quick Google should help you find one.)

On a side note, how many game forums would have a "Most memorable sound" threads? I hope Frictional's musicians and sound technicians got every industry award going, because they have done such a good job.

Same for me, hands down. A very close second would be this:

\Steam\steamapps\common\amnesia the dark descent\sounds\03\03_amb.ogg
