Well, not so sure about IRC. I also play this game called Blockland, and there is this major modification this person has been running for years (which the game's creator supports) which currently uses IRC. Lots of problems with that, so the next version is going to have it's own chat protocol personally made by the mod creator to streamline things.
I guess what I'm trying to say is it might be better to run the chat more directly with the forums than piggybacking IRC, but then again that would obviously be a lot of trouble with a possibly low level of usage.

Sooth and I sent you buddy requests on Steam. :o Also, at least once of us invited you to his Steam group he uses to announce when he's livestreaming.
