AMD64
Gentoo (Linux 2.6.20-gentoo-r8)
Penumbra DEMO
The game starts and gives me a black screen with the word "Loading" on it for about 8 seconds, then dissapears and leaves me back at my desktop without bothering to set the resolution back to normal.
I've symlinked the libraries included with the game to those compiled on my own system (32-bit) with gcc 4.1
Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date and try again.
What graphics card do you have btw?
nVidia GeForce 7950.
yes, the drivers are up to date.

Did you try running the game with the provided libs?
Also, can you attach a copy of your hpl.log (located in ~/.frictionalgames/Penumbra Overture/Episode1)
I just tried a fresh install of Penumbra with the provided libs, and it does the same thing.
this thing wouldn't let me attach the file :-)
so here is hpl.log:

Where / When did you download that? If you downloaded the demo after the 18th, that was fixed.. But if there is still a demo installer with this issues on a mirror somewhere they need to be notified to update their copy..
I don't recall where I downloaded it, but it was very recently (days ago).
I'm downloading
http://38.118.213.166/agfdbajtzi+/pub2/P...-101.sh/X6 right now (filefront mirror). I'll post again when I try to run it.
it was probably one of the official mirrors that I originally downloaded from.
yeah, I get the same error. I'll try a different mirror.
