Seems to be a driver issue, check nvidia.com for a new driver for your graphics chip and operating system, then download and install it.

I had the lastest drivers version before posting
Then the graphics chip might not be able to run the game.

The netbook is new from yesterday and i first install penumbra without updating drivers, and it appeared an error "Penumbra Overture Could not set displaymode in 640x420" and penumbra minimize. But when i maximized, the game run ok. Since I installed new drivers, the error hasn't appeared but i can only see black screen :/
Make sure you have this installed:

Do you also have an Intel embedded graphics card?

I already have that version. No, I have a Nvidia ION2 embedded.

If a previous driver worked, then just downgrade, even if it means playing on a really low resolution.
