How many resolutions could you go below an lcd's native res in games and still get decent results?
I've seen Dirt being played at 800x600 on an 1440x900 lcd (19', 16/9) and it looked perfect.

To what res could you drop an lcd with a native res of 1920x1080 (21.5', 16/9) in games?
Why don't you just try it and find out? I mean it sounds like a pretty subjective question to me. Personally, I don't think anything looks good unless it's full HD with 16xAA... but I'm really picky...
Well I don't have a 21.5' lcd monitor yet so I can't test it.
And I don't think too many shops would be open to me installing a game on their pc, them hooking up the lcd, lowering the res and seeing if the image is ok.
Hence my question.
on mine i could down to 800x600 and even 640x480 it would also put black bars on the side instead of stretch it out all weird like. i mainly tested this with fallout 1 and 2 ans starcraft.

Cool thanks, but I think these bars won't appear on every monitor though.
Still, good to hear it works.
