Frictional Games Forum (read-only)

Hi everyone,

I have Amnesia the Dark Descent in my Steam library. I played this game roughly a year ago with no problems whatsoever. I decided to start it up again the other day and to my surprise the game just does not load. Nothing happens. I get the message from Steam saying "preparing to launch Amnesia..." and my icon goes green for 5 seconds meaning I am in game but afterwards nothing happens and my icon goes back to being blue, meaning I am not playing any games.

I went online to look for a solution and did everything I could to fix the problem: I reinstalled the game, I verified the integrity of cache, I downloaded new drivers, I renamed the Amnesia folder in my documents, I renamed Amnesia launcher in steamapps folder.. Nothing works. Does anyone know how I can fix my problem?

The questions per the troubleshooting guide:

1) Windows 7 - 32-bit
2) Desktop (GeForce 8800GTS @640mb, 2 gig ram, 2.13 dual core Intel cpu)
3) I deleted all Amnesia folders when I reinstalled the game, so my hpl.log only says "Version 1.20" even though I attempted multiple times to start the game.

Please refer to the OP, I renamed the original folder in my documents and it did not solve the problem.

Problem solved. Thank you. I disabled all background applications and the game started just fine (and my computer became a whole lot faster).
