You said it like Dear Esther was a bad game.

That's if you even go as far as call it a game.

Well, you always can have your Dead Space :3
Man, did you seriously just wheer into the "2 deep 4 u" territory?

I appreciate artsy games, Cryostasis is one of my favorite games. But Dear Esther is just random purple prose thrown together into a blender to create an illusion of depth.
(02-23-2012, 06:51 PM)Googolplex Wrote: [ -> ]Changing the gameplay shocked me. The gameplay of Frictionals Penumbra & Amnesia are very user-friendly and involving. You don't need a keyboard full of keys to feel familiar with the game, you simply need W,A,S,D, Space, Mouse and crawl button.

You really felt like to be in the game.

And this excellent kind of gameplay is connected to Frictional - I would not change that. Maybe add some new features, but not cut some things off.
Frictional Games and The Chinese Room have not revealed any details on what features they've added or cut off. Don't judge things you haven't even seen.

(02-23-2012, 06:51 PM)Googolplex Wrote: [ -> ]Amnesia shouldn't be a casual game for new visitors. When they begin to go this way, they would be no longer unique. Fact is, that you have to feel it's a game by Frictional, only this games have something special in it, it's own charme. When you feel it's not from Frictional, the game could be a good horror game, but not a game that takes place in this niche of the genre.
Again, judging what you haven't seen. No one has said it's going to be a casual game.
"Frictional Games has a charm that no one else can achieve." I smell fanboy.

(02-23-2012, 06:51 PM)Googolplex Wrote: [ -> ]And to work only 10 months on this title, seems that the devs make a very short game, Dear Esther has aduration of 1-2 hours, the first Amnesia had about 8 hours, I really would like to see more varied locations, more rooms, longer story telling, more puzzles, more immersion, atmosphere and horror in the next title to come up to 15 or 20 hours of play. How short will the game be?
15-20 hours? Don't get your hopes up. Justine development time was about 4-5 months, which is about half of what The Chinese Room has. Justine's length was an hour or two, so A Machine for Pigs... 3-4 hours probably.

Holy shit people are still posting in this thread.

Game's not out yet

It seems people are so anti-innovative these days.
If you don't like to work, then don't do it.
Yeah, people are so flat these days.

They said the gameplay was changed and felt different to Frictionals typical gameplay.
I think, that's enough.

Lol, that's not really a full game, with 3-4 hours it have to cost 5 dollars.

This thread is for discuss about the next frictional game. Not only for the ARG, what already gets cracked.

To summarize: Frictional, I hope you kept your original concept of horror games. You have become my favorite developer in the last year and I'm really, really excited for this release. I really hope this collaboration was a wise step, otherwise I think me and a whole lot more people will be disappointed.

+1

They never said the whole gameplay would be changed. There's no need to worry, since FG is closely watching the development, trust me. I'm sure the changes will work out just fine.
Not sure any of us are in a position to question or even worse, criticize, FG for any decisions they wish to do. What do we know exactly about the collaboration ; hardly anything. I have doubts FG would 'sell their soul' and all their ideas to another developer, or that it automatically means that FG games will never be the same again, and it certainly doesn't mean that FG games are now going to turn into a new version of an exploration game that one of you hated.

It's all conjecture and baseless at this point.

I trust FG explicitly, they know what to do with horror games, that much is shown by what they have released so far. I wouldn't hold that candle up to every developer, particularly those that have a budget at least 15x as big. So therefore I have no reason to doubt anything until I see more.
