Play Penumbra if you didn't yet.
You're crazy man! Play Crysis 3, Assassin's Creed 3, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, Dead Space 3, Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth, Silent Hill 2, Alan Wake...
Play Penumbra? you're joking! Everybody is tired of this game, damn it!
I'm not tired of it, which makes your "everybody" not everybody. In my opinion it is way more interesting and creepy than Amnesia, and I enjoyed it a lot more...
Well everyone is different and since I mostly play horror nothing really scares me anymore, but if they did have something like this I may jump again, hopefully.

I liked black plague the most.
I see everyone saying yes Call of Cthulhu is great...
I played it the start was kinda strange hmmm I'm locked lets explore, hmm a scary basement lets explore (in his flashback/vision)
Then when you get to downer-vile you have to talk to grumpy downers and walking past police man who have a compass in his brain with you as pole.

I have no idea what you just said...

Of course he'd explore the basement. He's a police detective tasked with raiding the house of a violent cult. While he certainly shouldn't have gone down there alone, it at least makes a lot more sense for him to explore a potentially dangerous area than it does for most horror game protagonists
As for the villagers, as the story progresses it gradually becomes clearer why they are acting so strangely... it's actually very well done in terms of story telling.
In fact the only two downsides to the game, for me, were its tremendous amount of bugs (some of them making levels almost un-playable) and the fact that it becomes a bit too action-heavy towards the end. Some sections also require a lot of trial and error which, for me, is a no-no in a horror game
Other than that I'd recommend you give the game another chance.

Perhaps it will come, someday
I remember when Penumbra was new, I made a request for in game 3D option.
Quote: Nope. The HPL Engine uses OpenGL instead of DirectX. DirectX is requiredfor Nvidia's 3D, which is why RAGE and games like that never work in 3D.
Interesting... I didn't know that. But it makes sense I guess, I mean you can't just have the two images flicker, the flickering also needs to be synchronized with the shutters of the glasses.
Well I suppose one could still always code some sort of red/green solution. Like, you have two game cameras and some sort of post processing overlays the two rendered images and tints them red and green respectively. Like in old 3D movies (or 3D DVDs)... But it would most likely look crappy as hell!
