It can't be a classical Amnesia 2. Because Daniel could died in the ending of Amnesia.
So we get a new character, something like Justine?
I don't believe that this would be a good idea to change character every game.
I would prefer like Penumbra, Philip is the character in all three parts.
Or maybe Amnesia 2 plays before Amnesia, perhaps 10 years before... then we have Daniel again, but the story don't have a logical context.
Let's be patient and awaiting what Frictional Games does present us.

Yeah, maybe it tells an untold part of Daniel because it says nothing about him being in China. Or like you said an entirely new character or already existing characters.
