Will Penumbra: Black Plague have DX10 effects support or not?
What do you think(or know)?

Actually, this question makes some sense, as nVidia has the Cg 2.0 beta out now, and it includes support in OpenGL for features found in DX10 such as geometry shaders. Will P:BP incorporate these nifty new technologies?
I'm sort of familiar with OpenGL, heard of it, and a game I play uses it.
I don't think HPL uses dx10; and there isn't enough time to implement it I believe.
directx and opengl are 2 different things Smile (ok both for realtime 3d rendering but you know what i mean)
but opengl 3.0 will have some of the same features as DX10 so maybe that could do Smile
allso (excuse the caps) DX10 IS CRAP
what do we get:
- cloud shadows on the ground (c&c generals had it)
- multimonitor (supcom did it on dx9)
- god rays (volumetric ligting anyone
and the list goes on and on...
anyway, excuse the rant :p
DX10 will add little to penumbra imo most stuff can be done in the current opengl afaik
Cloud shadows on the ground is nice for a game like penumbra if you have open enviroment...Rememeber the cementery in quake 1 that was outside and all the zombies atacked you..
God rays... Stained glas also it will be nice in a game like this..
I finished all silent hill games series and quake 1 and my mind combines them now.. Big Grin
OpenGL is the reason why Frictional were able to port the game to Linux & Mac without (apparently) too much trouble. If they had stuck to using a proprietary rendering platform such as Direct3D, we might not have been so lucky. People don't generally think about such benefits until they try to spread their wings with different operating systems. Smile
