Hey guys. I wanted to start learning to model and animate myself and I was hoping for some advice. Bearing in mind that I can't afford to buy software, can anyone recommend a good set of software that is capable of creating and animating a passable entity for Amnesia? Cheers Smile
The two most popular and ideal programs for modeling are 3ds Max and Maya. Both can create/animate entities for Amnesia.

I also believe there is a tutorial by Acies that goes over very basic modelling for Maya (no animations). You can use the search function to find it.

Autodesk 3D's max, and Autodesk Maya can be downloaded for free if you're a student.
If not, you'll have to rely on Blender, which is god awefull.

How much did the big ones cost again? 3000 dollars? One would think that they would learn that nobody's going to buy their products by now. Have they formed a cartel or something?

They earn plenty of money, companies buy the products, not invidual people.

Why would they bother doing that? The modding scene is of no importance to them.
They're already industry standards and used everywhere, they'd gain nothing.

They'd gain lots of modders buying their programs instead of pirating it or using free alternatives. They're completely avoiding a market, and they're not exactly growing popular from that either.
Having only used Blender, i can say that it will do everything you need it to but the experience may not be pleasant. I have no idea whether Maya/3DS makes it any more pleasant, or whether its just the process of modelling itself that is unpleasant, but getting hold of one of those two means being a student or a theif, sadly.

The modding scene is fairly small, comparatively speaking. Providing that software means marketing and support costs, its probably just not worth it for them
