Frictional Games Forum (read-only)

I've been getting random freezes when trying to play Amnesia. Somehow I've managed to finally make it to the storage area, but can't seem to progress further. When the freeze(s) occur the screen goes black and then I will get the message that the display driver has stopped responding. I'm running Windows 7 64bit with an AMD HD 6870 video card. I've tried all the fixes I could find such as running as administrator, compatibility mode for XP SP 3, disabling steam overlay, write access to the game directory, verify steam game cache, reiinstall amnesia, reinstall video card drivers, etc. This is the only game that I've ever gotten this error for. In my HPL.log it says:

ERROR: StartPos '' does not exist!

WARNING: Entity 'explosive_container' with type 5 and subtype -1 does not exist!

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

From where did you get the game? Seems that certain files are missing.

I downloaded the game through Steam. What files are missing?

what catalyst do you have?

It's version 12.6.

try a newer or older one since AMD drivers tend to suck these days when it comes to OpenGL

Ok. It's the latest one. I guess I can try to find a prior version.

Does anyone know the last version of catalyst to work with Amnesia, or someone that can run it without issue and has a Radeon HD 6XXX card with the version that you use?

It looks like Catalyst 12.4 works. I've been able to play for a couple hours with it. If anyone else has similar problems I'd recommend them to use that version.
