Hi there

Hope you can help. Downloaded Amnesia from Steam and installed. Graphics were very slow and choppy.
My machine:-

Athlon X2 5000+
4GB RAM
Nvidia 7950GT 512MB
Windows 8 Pro 64Bit

Not the best and latest spec, but was hoping to run the game. Checked through the troubleshooting guides. Downloaded latest Nvidia drivers. I have OpenGL 2.1.2. Tried setting resolution to low ie. 640x480 or 800x600. Unticked heavy graphical effects such as SSAO quality/world reflection/edge smoothing/shadow quality. In fact I set everything to its lowest and its still running jerky and slow.

Anyone any ideas? Is my graphics card crap?

Thanks for your time

Dave
Try updating your graphics card drivers. And no, your graphics card is pretty good

i checked and i have 306.97, which appears to be the latest ones.
Try validating the game files. You can do this by right-clicking on the game in your Steam library, clicking on properties, going to the local files tab, and then click "Verify integrity of game cache" it will validate all Amnesia files and re-download any corrupted or bad files.

Let me know if that helps

UPDATE: As it would seem, Amnesia is having trouble loading lights. This could possibly be fixed by validating the game files
Not sure about Nvidia, but I know that with AMD Catalyst Control Centre there is a thing where you tick a box and it makes your GPU adjust to the best performance for the game.

I know that sometimes when I have that unticked, games FPS will lower significantly.
I tried verifying the files and everything was ok.

Looked in the Nvidia control panel to see if there were any strange settings. Most of the settings are set to let the 3d application decide.

I'm going to use driver sweeper and do a complete re-install of the graphics drivers.

I'm wondering if its a Windows 8 issue, as it has just come out. I'll try testing the game on a Windows 7 rig.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Dave
try windows 7 because this looks like a bad drivers issue
I installed the game on Windows 7 64 bit and managed to get it to run a bit better.

Had to reduce the resolution to 800x600 and turn off alot of the high graphical options.

Its a lot more playable, but not the best. Guess my graphics card and machine just isn't upto playing it :-(

Thanks for all the help.

It is not good at all a hd4850 or gtx275 would do way better and are only 20 to 50 euro.
The rest of the system is good enough.
Yea true. I made a mistake there. But 512MB on your card isn't bad at all
