Hi, just need help with sanity.

It seems like whenever I enter in darkness, the sanity stays crystal clear. Is the the darkness really draining and it's just really slow, or will giving some damage to the player's sanity make it go down faster?

When you are in darkness, the sanity reduces really slow. When there are some weird movements in the camera limits (those deformations) it means you are in darkness OR that you are looking a monster.
If you want to make it go down faster, just add some GiveSanityDamage in the darkness.
