Intel T1500 @ 1.88Ghz
2GB DDR2 Memory
GMA965 (x3100) Sad
I'm guessing that's the Celeron dual core T1500 and not the Core Solo T1500. It's a little under powered for Amnesia, but shouldn't stop it from running. I'm still sure given the "double free" error that it's memory related. How much memory is the system taking up? Remember you are down to 1.7Gig without system resources due to the X3100. I run KDE here and it is taking 1Gig, although 990meg is in disk cache. Actual processes are taking next to nothing.
1180 Mb Confused
Mmmmm.... Some of that is probably disk cache as well, but in any case it's not leaving you enough to run the game. I have seen youtube videos of Amnesia running in on X3100 systems with Gnome3 (in a 640x480 window) but I have to say, it looks like your system is just too far under powered for this game Sad . If these youtube guys are using similar spec machines to you, I'd say they were lucky. You could try and ask them what they did to get it running.

Having said that, KDE & Gnome/Unity are quite heavy. You could try a lighter Desktop Environment like LxDE or Xfce to free up some resources. I believe there are spins of Ubuntu that come with those, and OpenSuse gives you a choice of KDE, Gnome or Xfce when installing.
Your graphics chipset is not powerful enough to run Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Intel chipsets are unable of even starting up the game 99% of the time except for Intel HD cards which you don't have. But it's worth a shot to upgrade your drivers.

You can update your drivers here
