I think he's thinking that if he does nothing, he'll go forward in the game.
Read a tutorial on how to get out of the boat.

a long shot, but you say something is written? it won't go?
try this.
The game started, and you're on a boat. it says something. Left click on the mouse to remove the text and start play.

try that.
