Can anyone explain to why that particular episode is getting so much attention? (Hype, or is it particular shocking to you guys also?)

I watched a couple of reaction videos and read some descriptions about it and expected a slightly over the top (Would still be more attuned to reality instead of the stupid hollywood 1 stab deaths.) of people being stabbed/slashed to death over 5-6 minutes.

But after finding a 7-8 minute segment on it, it was rather disappointing after getting excited over the reaction videos.

Were the characters that likeable, that killing them was somehow that shocking? (I know woman get more emotional, but even some of the men were squirming or had horrified faces renewed every 15 seconds.)

The only thing that might of tingled me was the neck slashing, but that's only because of my own adam's apple. And I think sometimes getting hit their would be quite painful indeed.

I'm pretty sure most Horror movies show a lot more gruesome deaths than that episode.

Read somewhere that their was a scene afterwards that they threw their bodies over in a ditch or something.

Is there anything else I might of missed?
From this OP, I don't think you've watched the show or read the books...

I love the show, and I had no idea what I was in for. I was in speechless shock the whole 5 or however long it was.

Even people that read the books and knew what would happen left comments online such as they weren't prepared for it.

It was an amazing episode.
I think it's because they're not afraid to kill "center characters", which is pretty unusual within movies/series, unless you are watching a horror-movie whereas

the black man
dies first. Following the story you create/build a bond with its characters - suddenly killing them may have an adverse effect as people lose interest invested in the series, which is a risk Game of Thrones is willing to take.

If those reaction videos was related to the gore in the episode then I'm unsure of what to say..

... When I watched The Dark Knight Rises at the movie theater the man behind me was bawling loudly as batman flew away to sacrifice himself for the people of Gotham.
That's what I love about GOT. Everyone (EVERYONE) can die. There are no safe main character roles. Well, not always. I can't imagine that Daenerys will die now but in general, it is true.

Ordered first book yesterday, we'll see...
it wasn't the gore that shocked me. I just really got into the whole story and obviously i was cheering for Robb Stark. I felt very angry when Nedd got killed and seeing how it devastated the Starks, i felt sorry for Robb and i really wanted him to slice up some Lannister heads. I kinda had the feelings that he was going to die but i wanted him to die fighting, not being backstabbed and have him and his whole family unarmed and butchered during a wedding.

And after that episode, seeing this scene:

makes me all sad Sad So tragic

edit: Also, i hope the old bastard dies a slow death

Exactly, it's a little unfair for the character. But again, that's what I like about GoT. It catches you off guard.

Especially Joffrey.

That ending was like a lightning from a blue sky, I could not see that coming. But what happened to the guy who got married? Did they kill him too or is there perhaps another twist involved? And what will happen with the Starks army? Are they just like "He died? Oh, time to go home then..." And will Tyrion become the king now since he's married to Sansa? God, so many questions! Can't wait for the next episode! Which will surely be a cliffhanger with some more teasing with the White Walkers like in season 2...
