No way! The only soft shadowin i seen that actually looks good is in Unreal.
All other soft shadowin doesn't self shadow on an object, or project right like stencil shadowing.
Anyways all the soft shadowin i seen is Pixelated and Crappy and Bugged. Like in bioshock, The soft shadows go through the freakin floor!

What i would do is VRPBP shadowing, a modified stencil shadow. (stands for Vector Raycast Per Border Pixel shadow. It does a vector raycast for each border pixel in the shadow, or maybe each pixel, and it does a stencil for the projection, but the raycast gets the distance from where it hits the object to where the shadow is projected, and the longer the distance, the more of a "black glow" it does to that border pixel for a more realistic shadow spread and fade. Would take up tons of processing power, but it would be the most realistic shadow evah!)
it could work, its almost like raytracin though. Raytracin in penumbra, I like that idea!
Hey Chill out! Big Grin I just told you my opinion, nothing personal against you.
HPL is a wonderful indie engine! Other professional engines can benefit of more money and more working people, this is for sure, but what I am seeing in Overture and Black Plague is fantastic. I'd really like to use HPL from a developer point of view in one project of mine.
I must say, that only recently have i seen examples of the particle power of HPL2, VERY incredibly impressive!
Ohhh maaan.... After seeing requiem HPL looks SO AWESOME!
It would be awesome to make a half penumbra interactivity FPS by combining HPL2 With another engine, and combining Newton and PhysX. That would be HELLA sweet!
Any news on licensing or anything?
I've messed around with Crysis's engine, and I have to say I enjoyed playing around with it more than levels in HPL2.

You can have some very, very cool rooms in a tech-demo style environment with very decent fps.
Only difficulty is in the lighting.
Saw the screenshots at nextfrictionalgame, AMAZING!
HPL2 looks absolutely amazing BTW with what it can handle in the next game
Hah, those aren't screenshots mate; those are drawings.
We probably won't see any screenshots from the game or finalized HPL2 for many months.
nooo! ;(

HPL2 is bound to be near id-engine awesomeness!
