Look, i had a similar problem to. Try downloading a patch.
(what i did was start a NEW game, it worked fine second go round.)

Yea, I put the key in and the gas. The console had power before but I tried moving the power cable around and it sparked and then lost power. Now I am unable to even grab the power cable ends to move it.
I do have the latest patch too...
I really do not want to start over, it took me awhile to get this far

ugh well i guess ive given up on this game series.
is there any messages or anything? asking anyone who knows this, can you progress past this if you need something? there are points in the game that you NEED something or some things to get to another area before it may be blocked off.
If both plugs are secure, gas in the vehicle, key is in, and you pulled the leveled, i dont know what to say.

Hey! I have the exact same problem!!!
I went to that room before going to the storage room.
pluggued the cord to the electric transformer and to the console.
There was power but i didn't have the key or gazoline.
Before i figured out I needed a key and gazoline I unpluggued the cord.
After that i couldn't grab the cord anymore it would just bounce far away from me.
I went to get the key and gazoline in the storage room went back, put the fuel in the big yellow rock smasher, put the key in the console but still ... couldn't grab the cord anymore. I tried a hundred time it would just bounce away from me.
Me neither i don't want to start over again...
Anyone have a save game at that point that did not unplugued the cord?
I really do believe it's a bug... I just bought the game from steam, we are in 2009 and the game is from 2006 so i do believe i have the latest version of the game...
help please!
As you can see on the screen shot the cord is now in front of the big yellow truck and i swear i did not brought it there it's just bouncing when I try to grab one of the two ends. when i try to grab just the middle it does nothing.
I have also problem with power cables. Before I get key for that machine, I connected power cables, when i come back with key, the table says that there is no power, even with cables is still in touch. I check'd walkthrough and it meant to work like that.
I also included save-file for that. How I can solve problem, because I don't want to replay all over the game?

E: Problem solved now. I loaded game before that i plugged those cables and then do it in right order and it works.
I also had the exact same problem. I plugged in the cords, the console lit up, I realized I needed the gas and key, and when I came back the cords were plugged in, but there was no longer power, and I could not unplug the cords. Frustrating!
