Full Version: Penumbra Overture crashes when I leave the boat

I just finished Black Plague and decided to give Overture another whirl, so I started a new game. When I got all my things and left the boat, the game crashed after the loading screen. Overture has worked many times before, I don't know why it's deciding to screw up now. I am running the Steam version of the game.

Here are my specs, just in case.
You should be able to play Overture since you can play Black Plague.
I suggest you validate the game files. To do this, right-click "Penumbra: Overture" on your Steam Library and select "Properties". Then go to the "Local Files" tab and choose "Verify integrity of game cache". Perhaps some files are corrupt and need to be reacquired.
I did try this, but I'm afraid nothing happened. Still crashes.
Hey try this:

1. Write permission fail

This crash would happen during loading of new map. Make sure Penumbra
has full disk read/write permission in the directory it is installed.
Normally, Penumbra should not require this, but there might be occasions
when cache files become out of date and the game tries to update them.
For Windows Vista users, also try running as Administrator.
Have you checked the Penumbra troubleshooting guides?

I'm technologically inept, can you tell me how?
Go to Steam\SteamApps\common\, right-click the "Penumbra Overture" folder, select "Properties", then check the Security tab. Your username or the group you belong to (for example, Administrators) should have permissions to read, write and execute, applied to that folder and all its subfolders and files.
That didn't work either, I'm afraid.
Hi,

Have you followed the Troubleshooting Guide like plutomaniac asked? It is very thorough and your issue should be covered there.

As a last resort, try uninstalling/reinstalling the game.
