Lovecraft himself was being very sarcastic about his works and fantastic universes when he was writing letters. Well not sarcastic, but he did not hesitate to make fun of the weird divinities he created.
It always helps for writers to have a sense of humor about their creations. :p
Indeed, but to be honest, the shadow has to be more than just "The universe catching up with itself" I mean, think. It's a (almost) living thing, it makes its own choices and seems to have emotions (or at least mercy), there has to be more.
Maybe i'm just too interested in it

I much rather prefer to think of 'Tin Hinan' as a typical fleshy eldritch monstrosity, rather than anything as pretentious as "the universe". For an all-powerful cosmic force, it's pretty ineffectual when it comes to fleshy mortals like Agrippa and Daniel.
