Any progress to report?

I'd like to know this also.

I would like some new comments from the devs about this. I have the same problem, and can't play my new game (penumbra collection). I finished Overture and absolutely loved it, and was dissapointed when I couldn't continue the story in Black Plague. And yes, I have a Radeon HD 4870, and I guess that's the problem. Maybe you are working to solve the problem, but an update would be nice Smile

And hmm, should I patch the game? Or are the collection already patched? I downloaded the patch for the CD version I found on gamers hell but was unable to getting it to work.
Does anybody with the Steam version have this problem? The game is $3.75 as part of Steam's weekend deal and I'm more than willing to pay if I'll be able to finish it.

-Edit: Ah, nevermind it seems like people with the Steam version also have this problem.
Same problem here, using the steam version. I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 2600.
Same problem.

Vista 64-bit SP2
Radeon HD 4870.

I wonder if maybe a save that's right after you return to the Messhall would be a quick fix?
Heh, yes of course!

The saves are to be placed in "My Documents/Penumbra/Black Plague/save/auto"

First try the
Messhall Entrance 2009-06-08_19.31.03_04.zip

If that crashes then try
Messhall 2009-06-08_19.34.02_02.zip

The second save places you in the messhall, you will only have missed out on one puzzle.

Funny, I thought that after replaying the game 10 000 times I wouldn't have to do it again Big Grin:
i used the 1st save and its works for me. no crash so far. thanks for the quick fix. Big Grin:Big Grin:
First save was actually dealing with the wrong door in my case, but the second save works great. Thanks a lot. Big Grin:
I've got the same problem - the following fix should work (I'm running an ATI HD 4650)

1. Go to the Catalyst Control Center
2. Go to 3D options
3. Disable Catalyst AI

The reason why this bug occurs is probably the Catalyst driver misinterpreting certain shader scripts, so disabling the 'AI' should make it work properly. While all the Penumbra games work just fine without the Catalyst AI turned on, you may find that it might cause major glitches in other games if disabled. Don't forget to turn it back on when you're done.

Note: Not a 100% guaranteed fix, but it worked for me.

Hmm, I got to another door that wouldn't work for me (Infirmary) And tried this. I'm still get the display driver stopped working error. I also messed around with some more of the Catalyst settings, but still couldn't get it to work :undecided:
