When i start Overture it goes to a black screen then boots me to desktop and BlackBox reads:

Exception Reason: "penumbra.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module atioglxx.dll at 001B:6954A66E"

I've tried reinstalling the game as well as my sound driver and graphics card to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated.
What is your OS and graphics card?

Go to "My Documents/Penumbra Overture/Episode 1/" and attach hpl.log found there.
I have Windows XP

My graphics card is a ATI Radeon x850 series.

Thanks and hope this helps.

You sure you don't have the same problem with any other games?

Nope, everything else runs fine.
Any ideas anyone?
According to the log the crash occurs very early in the startup process, so it points to that something is really wrong. I can only suggest that you uninstall the game and install it again, perhaps try another location for the installation.

I also suggest that you go to My Documents/ and delete all the Penumbra folders so that the installation is completely clean when trying again.

Also that you try to run the game exe
directly from the installation directory, usually that is in Program Files/Publisher name/Penumbra name/redist/
I am getting the exact same fault. This is really frustrating me. I've reinstalled. I've patched. I've drivered... (is that a word)

I've deleted files all over the place. And I've done all this in various combinations too. Certainly there is a fix for this.

I have added my error log. Someone please have a look at this. Steam won't assist me.
You have to take the hpl.log file in My Documents/Penumbra Overture/Episode 1/ and post it here.

I don't see that log in my Ep 1 file.
I have a Radeon x1600, a proven good card according to Frictional.
