I praised the removal of Amnesia 1's sanity mechanics in the sequel because of the way TDD's effects created a dissonance between my feelings and that of the protagonist's. Daniel's controls getting slippery, him tripping when spending too long looking at a monster or hiding from it in the safety of darkness, and silly bugs crawling on the screen didn't disturb me so much as make me annoyed.
Perhaps amplifying the deleterious effects of this 'sanity' system would make me more amenable to its inclusion. What if SOMA's protagonist has a cybernetic brain? That could make it prone to "glitches". :p
