It lets you download the game before it is released,so you can play it immediately when it comes out.It is very useful for people who have slow internet.
I think Pre-loading used to be more important back when internet speeds were very very slow and it'd take 12 hours or more to get a game.
Nowadays with high-speed internet it's much much less, if yours works reliably
But then of course game sizes have increased as well, but nothing too obnoxious.
Already pre-loaded and ready to get spooked.
Might livestream the game on Twitch when it comes about.
Do you guys think the game will compare in terms of scariness to the first time you played amnesia? I'm not sure it could, even if the game is much scarier. Amnesia was my first horror game and to this day no game I've played has been as scary

Depends on what kind of scary you're looking for. Amnesia: The Dark Descent in my opinion is a frightening and disturbing scary game, while something like System Shock 2 would be a more creepy and also disturbing scary game.
When it comes to SOMA on the other hand, I think it will keep trying to be frightening and disturbing scary, but also try to be more mind fuck scary, because for example; the Mockingbird robots. They could trick you into thinking they are real like say, through a radio, and then when you meet them in person they might not be human (anymore), but rather a machine... or something else a lot more frightening. There is also the Vivarium machine that can show false images through monitors which would mess with your perception of events. SOMA would also be disturbing because it screws your perception of reality in the game, therefore; a mind fuck.
Yay preload, let's look at the game files

Why curious when you have had 30 minutes to 10 hours in the game?
