I have to know. Was the comet responsible for the death of every human-being up the surface?
Did Catherine and her crew knew it beforehand and made preparations for the ARK?
I belive that is the case. Since the earth is inhabitable, a lot of people probably died.
Maybe Pathos II already existed before the comet hit the earth though.
Also, I'm wondering if there been Pathos I. Might be interesting, or DLC content :>

But we don't know if it was still operational at the time of the comet. It may have been abandoned or dismantled.
Actually, a better DLC content might be about Simon-3 escaping Pathos-2, but where would he go :<

The screen flashes "cortex core corrupted", make that of it what you will. Why do you need a DLC just open leveleditor and write one yourself.
PATHOS-2 is a network of deep sea research facilities, not the underground bunker for the comet, you can see it never was intended to be that way (there are at least 2 facilities on the surface, which pointless if the plan was to build them to survive comet).
PATHOS-I may be never existed in first place but rather was the earlier development concept that turned into PATHOS-2.

It's made pretty clear in the com center that it was the end of the world for pretty much everybody on earth, and at various points that the station was the only inhabitable place left on the planet (and at the end you know, the earth in on fire). Pathos 2 of course existed before the comet (who would have built it otherwise?), as a geothermal energy station, launch pad, and probably underwater scientific research facility.
