Full Version: What functions do you miss most from hpl2?

It would be ideal if you posted these functions in the form of a list. The idea is that we can add these into hpl3 so you dont have to worry about learning the new scripts. The functions would probably have the prefix 'hpl2_', so do keep that in mind.
Might not be easy to re-implement, but I personally miss the inventory from Amnesia and Penumbra. Thankfully, I just read in the wiki that it is possible to specify new entity types if need be, so it might be possible, even if difficult, for us modders to re-implement.

EDIT: I realize now that was a bit irrelevant, especially since the inventory is no one function, so please disregard this reply.
Indeed. If someone manages to create an inventory module, that would be amazing. Hopefully they'd share it. If I make one, I definitely will!
Woah. Its probably possible, but it would be one of the hardest things to reimplement out of everything.
Dont expect that any time soon.

I could see it pulled off, albeit sloppily, by setting a mock terminal up in front of the player and entering it.
Yeah, it's definitely not a starter's project, but interesting nonetheless. I think we should put that aside for now though.
Creating an Inventory is definitely possible and it's been bandied about by the Frictional team as an example of something that can be done if one is up to it.

But I'd imagine like stated above, that it is going to be a big undertaking and likely someone would need a good background in scripting/programming to make it so.
I read something about a camera you attach stuff to in the wiki. I also know that with flat surfaces you can add terminals/gui's to like the screens in soma. So if you attach a transparent plane to the camera you can use the ui scripts on it and do an amnesia style inventory. thats one way you might be able to do it, but I think there is very likely much easier ways.
Easier as far as difficulty, probably not.
Easier as in more efficient and effective? For sure.
