I absolutely love the start. Especially Simons apartment . Its kinda funny that in every frictional games the main character is waking up from sleepy or dreamy state like that in Amnesia series and now in Soma. Actually I consider beginning of any game really important because it keeps us hooked for rest of the game. And incase of horror games the tension and scary atmosphere should develop from the start.
Waking up is a good way to start a story, because it kinda starts off somewhere. It would be weird to start the game in the middle of an action without knowing what happened up until that point (though sometimes, starting in the middle of action "in medias res" is a nice touch). In comparison, many Zelda games start off through sleep.
It was alright, I didn't see any issues with that.
I loved the sense of mystery in the beginning all the way to encountering the monsters actually. I basically only got this game because of the sense of mystery. I'd LOVE to see that topic explode.

Agree, the mystery was the best part about the game and putting it all together.
I voted "Perfect start. Loved it", simply because I did love it. Wink
The start was awesome for two things, first at all, because you feel comfortable with the character and you have no idea what is going to happen next, and second, because when you advance a little in the game, you are the character already, i mean, you start to feel empathy about everything is happenning to him, and that's the reason why you immerse so much in the character later. A good start making crescendo through all the game

PS: sorry my bad english
It was great, except for finding the damn tracer fluid.
I voted 'perfect'.

The liked the most about it was that it created a good feint on the plot for me. It made suspect something else.

I also liked how the first monster "riddle" wasn't so easy, even though the map geometry made it easy to stay alive.
