A new mod for Half-Life 2: Episode 2 was released not long ago. It is called Nightmare House 2 (http://nh2.wecreatestuff.com/ ). I just finished playing this mod and in my opinion it is better as horror game than Penumbra Overture or Black Plague and this is why:
-More and better encounters
-More kinds of enemies
-More enemies in levels
-Much less loading screens
-More "WTF???" moments

I think Frictional Games did a great job in making a great horror game but I think they should try out this mod for inspiration sometime. I believe you can find some references in that mod related to Penumbra.

I would like to know what do you guys think about this mod?
I'm downloading it now, but I would be very surprised if it comes anywhere close to Black Plague, heh.
It's released then. I was waiting but I forgot to check it out. Gonna try.
I couldn't care less about the monsters or combat. Not scary. However, the WTF moments kick ass so far. It's like if FEAR's horror element didn't completely fucking suck.
Played a bit of it now. It's good, but it's certainly no Penumbra. Wink
Finished. One thing: F.E.A.R.: Source
Thing is that FEAR had a little girl pop up and flicker the lights on and off once every two levels between massive gunfights. This is consistently distorted. I'm not sure what was supposed to be real and what wasn't and there was some crazy shit going on. It's not a fear of dying kicking in like in Penumbra. I think it's a fear of going insane.
Well, don't forget the check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opeVHunfm...re=related
Best playthrough ever.
I am playing it right now and yes, it is a great mod. Really scary like Penumbra games, I really like it. But Penumbra games are really good too and they are different games. Penumbra and Amnesia are not shooter games.

Am I the only one who considers random 'freaky' stuff happening more silly, than scary?

That's why Condemned ultimately failed me. There were so many supernatural things going on and no explanation at all.
