I would like to see more optimization of light/shadows. Possibly work on making certain light sources cast blurrier shadows or something?

Yeah, the way light works currently does not seem to be the inverse square law. That would be a nice change. There are some other physics changes that would be cool. Giving each object one- or two-handed grip points (so that any object you could pick up would automatically spawn your arms) would be cool.
Heck, persistent arms and legs would be cool.
