I don't mean to just make this thread for my video, but it helps explain the situation I am in.

At about 8:35, I was chased by a monster into the room and I, luckily, wasn't seen after he entered the room as I went behind the pillar.

I do not believe he had the time to go back out, and I was almost certain he was circling around the pillar after me. Though as I began to look, I saw no signs of him at all.

Do monsters normally vanish if they lose sight of you, or is there something else at work here?
Monsters doesn't vanish, they wander around. If they loose sight or sound of you, they go to look somewhere else, but there's no guarantee of that you won't run into arms of a monster when you turn a corner.

Ah jeese, so you're telling me he's back out in those dark halls?

Oh god. I was hoping he just vanished.
One thing I tell you, if you hear a sound, run! Do not look back! Ever! If you do, you can't survive Big Grin
Sometimes they do despawn, but rarely.

That is the golden rule for this game. The amount of people (myself included) that have turned around during a chase, out of curiosity, that have gotten the fright of it being right behind you AND gotten slashed to death is not right.

Never look back, ever.
They vanish under 2 conditions (combined):
1. They lose you (no "scary" music anymore)
2. You're far enough from them (because if you follow them, for example, they will not vanish)

So, they wander a bit and then vanish and NEVER re-appear again. One trigger - one monster. That's the rule.

Ofc, there is an exception: in Chancel, for example, those 3 spawned monsters never disappear until they get you.

I think you mean in the choir.
No, I meant the Chancel.
They disappear in Choir.

I guess you mean the guys that are part of the "event". I didn't really count them since you have to get caught there. The Choir guys felt like they stuck around though. Maybe I just stayed too close to one of them.
