Hopefully this is the right place for this question. I'm trying to get into the toolkit so I can mess with making a custom story, but I'm hitting a significant problem; the wiki says to "extract the zip and run the installer (hpl_editor_suite.sh)," but I can't find that file/executable anywhere in the zip or in the folder after extracting. All I have that's similar is the HplLangTool application.
We have a subforum for development of custom stories. I'll move this there.
Which wiki page are you talking about? Is this for Linux?
Thanks, I wasn't sure. I'm talking about https://wiki.frictionalgames.com/hpl2/tools/start, for Windows.
If you downloaded a .sh file, that's for Linux. You're looking at the wrong section if you want it for Windows. You wanna download the zip file near the top that says Windows and version 1.3.
I downloaded the right zip, sorry for the confusion, but there's still no way to install it, no exe or anything. And if I try to open one of the viewers, it starts complaining about missing .dll files, which I assume are supposed to come from installing it.
I think you've got the wrong idea here, you only need to extract all of the contents within the zip file to the game folder, ex : D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Amnesia The Dark Descent

There is no installation, just a simple drag and drop.
Oof. I did have it all wrong, and while I had the correct files in the correct place, I hadn't actually tried opening any of the editors once they were there. Thank you both for your help, and pardon my idiocy. /facepalm
