It's nothing you script, you have to make a specific chest entity, can't recall how you do it since we did not use it in the final game. But take a regular chest entity, open it in the model editor, then using the user variables you change the entity type to be, I think, gameplay and subtype chest or soemthing like that.
Then in the level editor, when you add this new entity to a leve and select it, you will have options to specify the amount of thalers and such.
