An Unexpected Arrival - v1.04



Description

"You are lost in a dark forest. Your sanity is fading rapidly. You have little time before your past catches up with you. You must seek refuge; anywhere but the undergrowth of the forest which has you trapped, alone."

I have spent many long hours working on this custom story. I lost several hours due to a faulty hard drive, and as such, I have released the first part of this story. Those who have played the demo will experience some familiarity; but even areas from the demo have been moved elsewhere in the game/removed/updated; so you should still experience a fresh feel to those parts. There is plenty of gameplay in this release; I hope you enjoy it!

- Fixed sound bug that carried music through to the next level.
- Fixed a bug that caused players to start an event from the wrong side of a wall.

  • 5th Feb - Demo released.
  • 6th Feb - Released fix for not returning to main menu.
  • 24th Feb - Wow, I should probably hurry up finishing this soon...
  • 27th Feb - Final release SHOULD be within the next 14 days...
  • 28th Feb - Oooh, we have an elevator :3
  • 29th Feb - The sense of accomplishment when you finally finish a map that has taken you over 20 hours to make...
  • 2nd March - Patched up the broken skybox in the demo and tweaked everything you see (only in final release).
  • 3rd March - Added a prequel map and started implementing a proper story/theme. There are still two small-ish maps to finish up and then I can release this.
  • 5th March - Okay, prequel is finished. I've received lots of feedback from 'private testers' and have tweaked the first few maps. Just a couple more maps to go!
  • 7th March - When I said this should be finished in the next 14 days, I was wrong, this will still take a little while to finish, I have been/am really busy with college work but I am working hard (ish) on this.
  • 14th March - Added some really fun easter eggs for you guys/gals to enjoy when I finally release this mother f*cker.
  • 18th March - Hopefully, I shouldn't ever have to release any patches. I have tested every single thing, that it is near-perfect. I just screamed at a scripted event that I created but forgot about earlier xD
  • 8th May - Wow! A long time since any update here. If anyone actually reads this, I've been really busy with work and personal things, however I have been following the community closely and you can expect a release of this story in June/July!
  • 31st May - Released!
  • 31st May - Released v1.01 patch
  • 3rd June - Released v1.02 patch
  • 9th June - Released v1.03 patch
  • 10th June - Released v1.04 patch

Ok so I've played up until the part where the first monster breaks through the door (Is that the end of the demo?)

I'm scared out of my mind and I think this is one of the most polished custom stories out now.

I'm glad you liked it! Big Grin The demo ends when you go through the door that says "Private Quarters". A message will appear letting you know that the demo has finished.

Ok I finished your demo.

1. Great use of music during parts when it is needed to build up tension or to take off tension and give the player a sense of accomplishment.
2. Less supplies Smile
3. A variety of scares from false scares to outright disgust.
4. Immersive
5. Utilizing the sanity meter to enhance the atmosphere and mood.

The only thing I can see wrong with it is that you may have scared the player too much in the beginning...but only if you are planning on making this a extremely long custom story. Most of the time the bomb ticks before being set off.

Other then that I'm extremely happy with the quality of this demo.

btw, at the end, the game not exiting automatically to the main menu, i need manually esc->exit.
is that fixed?

FIXED the bug in which the player did not return to the main menu after completing the demo.
