http://wiki.frictionalgames.com/hpl2/amn..._functions you need this defiently for reference. But start looking at some tutorials, good way to get the basics.

As Rapture said, its hard to make things really good without scripts, but you have the right idea so far. DO YOUR STUDIES ON THAT LINK HE GAVE YOU! Scripting is hard, but the second you understand how things are set up, it will click, and all you need is the codes and you can just whip out some awesome code. I thought I would never get it, and here I am making a custom story with over 5 chapters!

Its really fun to see your work, actually reflecting in the game, but dont get frustrated, its a very hard language to learn, so definitely start with keys and notes, and build on that. Feel free to post topics if you need help, people here are incredibly good about providing help!!
