Can't see if this is case but make sure it's a dirt plane at bottom. The green colour looks a bit unnatural - maybe make it less green and add a bit more blue? Also, adding more blue could create an orange/blue contrast though a very weak, faint one which is always good.

Yea I know it's a bit unnatural... It's because of the mushrooms glowing and growing deep underground. But i could try making them more blue.

Yes, it's a dirtplane... That makes most sense...

I will mostly go with the glowing mushrooms, and empty torchholders which results in a mono-türkis color, but i could throw in some torches...

How about the plants? Are they ok?

Trying is the first step to success.

Library is pretty much done. I still gotta script the puzzles and maybe stick in an oil pot or 2. Anyway, here's a church I'm working on.

Edit: I got post #666 earlier in this thread and now I got post #777. I swear if I get #888 I'm gonna be scared.

@DeAngelo

Increase the floor tile, add carpets, add dirt floor decals, perhaps try knocking a few chairs over...

Make the boxlight darker (so the ceiling area isn't as well lit as the ground where all the lights are shining), use a plentiful amount of dark pointlights to help blend it a little...

Consider using planks of wood to cover some of the windows and using the different styles of curtains to add variety...

Perhaps add other sources of lighting e.g. torches, candlesticks...

fix the tiling on the ceiling (the texture seems very small), add some support structures like wooden beams

and also, one thing very few people seem to do, ADD PILLARS/WELDERS BETWEEN EACH CASTLEBASEWALL. There is a seam in the texture - it doesn't add up quite right if you look closely.

I rate it 3 memes.

OK, I increased the floor tile and added carpets. However this is supposed to be a flashback to a wedding so dirt on the floor and knocked over chairs won't fit (I'm assuming you were operating under the impression it was your typical Amnesia abandoned church type thing

Make the boxlight darker (so the ceiling area isn't as well lit as the ground where all the lights are shining), use a plentiful amount of dark pointlights to help blend it a little...
Made the boxlight a bit darker, but I dunno what you mean about pointlights. Do I just put really low (like .05,.05,.05) point lights just all over the place? If so how big should each be?

Consider using planks of wood to cover some of the windows and using the different styles of curtains to add variety...
I added curtains (there's only one style, just different sizes and open/closed versions) but see my statement above as to why boards on windows won't fit

Perhaps add other sources of lighting e.g. torches, candlesticks...
Done.

fix the tiling on the ceiling (the texture seems very small), add some support structures like wooden beams
Done. Funfact: First time I loaded the level I had forgot to set all those wood beams as Static so they all came falling down and scared the shit out of me.

and also, one thing very few people seem to do, ADD PILLARS/WELDERS BETWEEN EACH CASTLEBASEWALL. There is a seam in the texture - it doesn't add up quite right if you look closely.
I usually keep an eye out for seams and put in welders when needed, but this flashback will be a linear computer-controlled one so the player won't have a chance to get close and see the seems.

I put my responses in the quote in bold. Thanks for the help Smile Here's the new version:

Literally lol'd.

-I indeed was going on the assumption you pointed out.

-You're also correct about the pointlights.

Assuming you have a colored boxlight (which you clearly do), any greyish colored point lights (where all values are the same) will just make it a bit brighter in whatever area you place them and retain the color. They should be sized according to how faint you make them (i.e. bright lights should be small, dark ones should be big, etc)

I rate it 3 memes.

Edit: for your convenience, I have broken down what I said into spoilers

Billboards
Spoiler below!

Your lighting has improved a ton! Have you tried connecting the billboards to a light source?
If not, under the "Billboard" tab in the level editor second from the bottom, there's a blank labelled "connected light source" and a button that says "connect". Click the button and then click the light you want to connect the billboard to. The billboard (or billboards) will now be the same colour as that light; if you adjust the light colour, you can adjust the billboard colour. I would suggest making a small pointlight off to the side with a radius of 0.25 outside the map and naming it something like "billboard_light".

Also, with this, make sure that your billboards are only coming in from one side of the map. Skip the stuff in italics if scientific explanations bore you. Light behaves like both a wave and a particle, meaning it will travel in a (somewhat) linear direction. It also refracts and reflects *slightly*. Due to this nature, unless you have a light source on either side of the church, light (and thus billboards and spotlights) will only be shining in from one side. You can still have light coming in from both sides, but the side without a light source will be much, much dimmer than the side with the light source.

The Light Dust (and Other Particles)
Spoiler below!

Make sure you change the colour of your particles. You can do this under the "Particle System" tab (to the right of "General") when you have a particle system selected. Under the Particle system label, there's a box labelled "color"; click on the box and move the sliders (same way you change a light's colour). Keep the alpha above 0 but below 0.9 (anything above 0.9 is way to opaque). The light dust you have in your first picture is way too opaque; try turning the alpha down to somewhere in the 0.5~0.85 range.

Your first picture also has a room that looks rather clean. "Billboards" (light rays) are created when light shines on dust particles in the air and reflects off of it. Try adding some fog particles (same colour or darker than the ambient light).

BeeKayK, your overgrown area looks delightful! Maybe try turning the grass decal green (or whatever colour the plants are) and spamming it along the walls/planes if you haven't already.

Oh, I thought the "connect light" thing was to make it so that if I turn on a lamp I can have a light connected to that lamp since you can't adjust a lamp's light directly. Thanks for telling me this, because it becomes a freaking pain to adjust 20 billboards each time I want to make changes. Neato Burrito.

Make sure you're duplicating the billboards so that you don't have to connect each one individually to the light source.

In the original Amnesia, the billboards look realistic. In my CS, it looked fake. How to make the billboards to look realistic?
