@tjerker it looks like the game cant access any of the files. Try running the Soma.exe as Administrator
If that doesnt work you might have to install/download the game again

what error message do you get guest?

I'm having the same problem and despite following a few of the solutions here, I haven't been able to play yet. I bought and downloaded my version from Steam.

Computer Specs:
Processor - Intel® Core™ i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz
RAM - 12.0 GB
System - Windows 7 64-bit Operating System

Here's my HPL Log in the attachments.

It looks like you need to update your ATI Graphics drivers. Try following this link http://support.amd.com/en-us/download#

However, I think it is likely you will not get it to work and if you do the performance will likely be unplayable I am afraid.

And is this because my drivers are out of date? Or because of my graphics card? I think I've accidentally modified my drivers in the past so I can understand why that might be it.

But even with an update it may not run? Why is this?

Because the card you have is quite old, perhaps 5 years? and is integrated and not very powerful. The game needs OpenGL 3.3 and your card reports it only supports 3.1. Drivers sometimes include updates that increase the OpenGL support, so that is why updating drivers might make the game work. But even when it works it will likely not run very well.

Thanks for looking into it! It would have been nice if OpenGL 3.3 had been specified on steam so I could have done some digging on my comp before purchasing. Are these conditions right for a refund?

Yes as long as the game time is less than 2 hours and you request a refund within two weeks , it does not matter the reason for the refund. IF I recall the Steam refund policy correctly, please do check it on Steam.

If this doesnt work then theres not much that can be done. Then it must be the compiler adding code.

KERNEL32 can be used by 64 bit applications as well. So that should not be a problem

Had the same issue and followed the thread to this. Tried downloading the attaced new .exe file and it worked for me.

I'm getting a tad frustrated,
I have now gone and setup windows 7 again. With no luck.

Should i ask for a refund or do you anything else to suggest?

Regards,

Högni

Tried turening off (or adding exception) antivirus and any other program that could interfere with the game?
Possibly it is sound related, try setting system to default to another sound output, just for testing. Possibly check for sound driver updates.
