No graphics but sound in archives - clovy - 11-01-2011

I'm playing through the archives part at the beginning and in the maps room where you pick up the note and the flashback starts I can see the subtitles and hear the sound but there is no graphics at all. I can still hit esc and pull up that menu but not the menu for inventory or see any other graphics. My computer is a dell insperon with an i5, and dell intergrated hd graphics, 4 gig ram. I have also attached the hpl.log. Thanks for your help guys.
Oh and just to add to the post I am running the game through steam.

Your graphic driver is outdated. Look here for troubleshooting:

Tried it twice and it still doesnt work :/

here's my hpl after the updates in case it changes anything

It looks like nothing has changed. Your graphic card should be able to support OpenGL 3.0 while game needs 2.1
However since your driver is not up to date, your graphic card currently supports 2.0 which is below 2.1

Ok now this is getting weird. I double checked the download and made sure my driver number matched the number of the newest driver on intel's website. Then downloaded a program that allowed me to view my OpenGL support and it does say 2.1 so i dont know why it still doesnt work. :/ The driver that I have installed is 8.15.10.2509.
I'm gettin the driver off of this site. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Laptop+graphics+controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics&ProdId=3231&LineId=1101&FamilyId=39&DownloadType=Drivers
and ive attached an image of a screen shot of the OpenGL viewer.

Integrated graphics are not supported, so while the game can run it might be problematic. If you temporary turn down/off all the graphics options, restart the game and then load an earlier save you can play through this part. After having done so you can reset the settings to what you had before.

It is also possible to skip picking up the diary, it's only a very small sequence in the game that you'll miss, you can see it on YouTube instead for example.

@ Tans: There are two Intel HD cards, the 2000 series that support OpenGL 2.1 and the 3000 series that support OpenGL 3.1. He has the 2000 series with the latest Intel drivers installed.

Jens is right, sometimes with such barely-able to play the game graphics card this problem occurs. You should skip this very small part.

Oh, I didn't know that. If that's the case, I hope lowering all the settings for that specific area helps.

yes he has to skip this small note only and everything else should be fine
