It's funny because sopa means soup in spanish.

I have a hard time sympathizing with the billionaires in Hollywood who are still making more money than god despite making shitty movies all year round, and "losing" money from piracy.

Copyright laws, especially in the United States are already incredibly full of shit, they do not need to get more ridiculous than they already are.

I won't even get started on how digital goods do not even fit into a capitalist society at all since they have infinite supply :3

It is truly sad that the politicians care more about the size of your pocket than werther you are right or not :/

Something like that happened in Turkey. It was a service system, which people have the liberty to choose whatever service they want: Children, Family and General. If you don't want to choose any of them, you would be automatically set to general service, which, in any mean, won't ban any of the websites you already had access.

People in my country did protest, some extreme movements etc. None of them really tried to understand what really it was, they were all screaming "omg omg omg it's a dictator system they are banning our internet, we are becoming Iran China etc!!!111". I really lost my hope for my people.

Then the service deployed and went alive. No one is screaming now. Another example just from my work:
// Our neighbor came to use since we are an IT company, and asked why cops came to him about his internet use. Turned out, his WiFi service for his customers (he was running a restaurant) was unprotected and had no password. Someone used this WiFi access to enter some chldprn websites. Since he was the owner of that internet, cops came directly to him. We managed to help him, then we advised him to switch over to family service, which would prevent things like that to happen to begin with. Where are the people screaming now?//

I've read enough about SOPA. It's the government who keep things vague. There are holes in this act and anyone can abuse it, as it seems for now. However I find it funny where there are more serious problems like messed up education system, but people come together to stop SOPA, while they don't give a single damn about other issues.

Another rep+ for you Tans.

RE: SOPA. Have you heard? - Kman - 01-19-2012

@Tansel it's not that people don't give a damn about the other issues, it's just that at the moment we are weeks away from the day that they vote on it. Because of that people realize if they're gonna stop it they need to act now and focus all their attention on it if they want to make a difference. Now I'm not saying the other issues aren't important, it's just that people want to make sure this thing doesn't get through and since time is running short they want to make a big impact now. It's kinda like (and I know this metaphor is kinda morbid, but it's true) if someone was holding a gun to your head and said they were about to kill you in a few seconds, but at the same time you were bleeding out. Sure both Issues would result in your death, but you have time to patch up a bleeding wound, if you don't take care of the guy holding a gun to your head immediately he would kill you, so you'd probably want to deal with that first, you know what I mean?
