OpenAL Compatibility Test - Luis - 02-15-2008 Hi all. This thread is aimed to help all those who have problems with OpenAL. This is a little test that looks for available OpenAL devices in the system. Just unzip the contents of the archive, run the 'OpenALCompatTest.exe' file, and then upload the 'OpenALCompatTest.log' generated by the program. Also, don't forget to state your computer specifications and a description of your problem (like errors returned) I think I've already figured out what's wrong, but I want you to try the test just to make sure. Remember that you must have OpenAL installed on your computer before running the test, otherwise it will return an error. Cheers. In this folder you will find a file called 'settings.cfg'. Open it with a text editor and add the parameter ForceGeneric="true" under the "Sound" tag. Then try to run the game. If this doesn't work, set the UseHardware parameter to "false". RE: OpenAL Compatibility Test - dikh - 02-16-2008 I don't find something like Penumbra or Black Plague in Documents and Settings.... My C: is NTFS, and I think - maybe Penubra doesn't have friendshpi with ntfs??? RE: OpenAL Compatibility Test - F@ruk - 02-16-2008 OpenAL Compatibility Test running... If your username is "dikh", your "My documents" folder path should be something like "C:\Documents and settings\dikh\My documents". You should find your Penumbra folder there. F@ruk, what kind of problem are you having? RE: OpenAL Compatibility Test - Thomas - 02-16-2008 Luis: Is settings created when the OpenAL crash happens? For the record, the problem I have is the "FATAL ERROR Failed! Check your OpenAL installation" error on startup. I'm going to try the .cfg editing suggestion now. EDIT: Shoot, still doesn't work. I'm going to try uninstalling and deleting all the OAL and Penumbra stuff. >_< EDIT2: Still not working... It may be useful to tell you guys what led up to this... I installed the game with all the default settings, fired it up, and lowered the graphical settings and did something in the audio settings as well. I completed the tutorial, and decided to try running the game at the high texture detail level instead of medium. I set it to high, and exited the game. When I tried to start it again, I got the error for the first time. RE: OpenAL Compatibility Test - srothman125 - 02-17-2008 When I tried to run your app I got the following: "This application has failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found. re-installing the application may fix this problem" any ideas?
