"Ambridge Mansion"-style mod? - Noctre - 08-10-2012

I couldn't find any mods involving darkness eating people, or ones with sentient shadows, so I thought I'd post.

For those who haven't played this silly little flash game, it is sort of what I was expecting/hoping for when I started playing Amnesia. Unfortunately, author/artist Jim Gray has abandoned the flash project and is seemingly unreachable, largely due to the limitations of the flash artwork he was working with, and because most people these days don't enjoy point and click adventure games. Never the less, here are the links to his first two games in the series, which are both excellent, IMHO:

Day 1: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/260163
Day 2: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/346576

Basic synopsis: You're trapped in a dark mansion (sound familiar?), cut off from the outside world by a wall of shadow. Inside the mansion, it is gradually revealed that the shadows are sentient and malevolent, or, at least, are a gateway for dark and malevolent creatures, and, the world will end in 7 days, unless you figure out how to stop the darkness. No pressure or anything.

After playing this little flash game, the red, glowing cancerous lumps of "the shadow" just didn't do it for me. I wanted to be chased by something demonic, made of blackest shadow, with claws and fangs, extruding from the darkness like a hound of tindalos to devour my soul... Instead, I got pursued by the same red light that chased Heather Mason through the haunted house in "Silent Hill 3". Sorry, but it just didn't do it for me.

My Question is this:

Has anyone started or considered starting a custom story like this?

If so, what were the setbacks? I'm sure making dynamic darkness effects and creating monsters like those found in the flash game would be quite challenging, any thoughts on this?

If nothing else in favor of an Amnesia conversion, we'd already be working with a dark, creepy mansion with plenty of darkness to go around and no real weapons.

Honestly, to me, at least, this would be the scariest game in existence. I would gladly help out in any way I could to see a game like this.

Let me know what you think.

Oh god.

I used to have nightmares about sentient darkness eating me.

NOPE

In all seriousness, though, this is a great idea for a scare and shouldn't be that hard to do. I don't have a clue, but it seems doable.
