Stuttering fps with some mods - serbusfish - 08-20-2012
My PC specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.9ghz
8GB RAM
Sapphire Radeon 5870 1GB
Normally when I play vanilla Amnesia I get 60fps constantly, as I do with most games. However with some custom stories such as 'Gary - Dark Secrets' I experience a lot of stuttering where fps are dropping to 30 - 40, yet with others such as 'Abduction' I get smooth 60fps all the time.
I was wondering if anything can be done to fix these issues? Surely it cant be my PC spec thats the problem? Perhaps there are some settings I can mess with to fix it? I noticed when playing Amnesia mods or not my CPU is barely being used.

You'd have to tweak the maps until the desired performance is reached.

Gary - Dark Secrets uses an ungodly amount of particle systems (mostly fog) in every single level, so its very likely that is an issue; also, majority of the levels in that mod are just gigantic. I had a similar problem with Poisonous, one of the levels uses 20+ steam particles in one room. It's an issue that is out of your hands, its solely the fault of the mapper that didn't take into consideration how cramming so many things into one area could cause bad performance on some computers.
