RE: Time? - Yuhaney - 09-28-2012

I believe it's expanding all the time.
No proof to back it up, but whatever, don't really care if I'm correct or not. lol.

If my teacher would hear that, you'd be flying out the window at 750 miles per hour!

The universe is expanding. This is a fact and it has been proved.

Tell him / her that I said hello.

OK. Thanks for clearing.
But if it's true that it is expanding, then I believe it's infinite.

Oh, even better. Higher chances to survive in the future.

Although there are some theories about the expansion of the universe. Well in fact they are cases of the same theory.

Probability1: Some day the universe will stop expanding due to the gravitational forces and it will collapse.(Closed Universe).
Probability2: The gravitational forces are not enough to stop the expansion of the universe and it will continue to expand forever (Open Universe).
Probability3: The gravitational forces (well I think it is also called cosmological constant, but not sure) are just enough to stop the expansion of the universe. In that case this would take literally forever to happen and universe is an Euclidean space.

Dang, so much complexity.

Is there something specific that you didn't understand or you were generally speaking?

I don't get the relation between the expansion of the universe and the hypothesis that it is infinite. Of course if it is expanding it is VERY VERY BIG! and I am just gonna leave it with that, but that doesn't mean it's infinite.
