Is there any way to make working computers like in Penumbra: Black Plague?

Just be creative and use tons of custom billboards!
You could have the player interact with a computer, set the player inactive then teleport him to a new area - in the new area, you would have a billboard set (one that encompasses the entire screen) representing the monitor (so it would be a more direct view like in Black Plague), then have objects right in front of the player that he can interact with (but won't be able to see due to the billboard) that could function as buttons. Each button would change the monitor billboard. Easy Peasy.
