Getting Window Shadows - AGP - 05-05-2013

How exactly does one go about getting the effect of the light shining through the windows? I tried using the GOBO option, but it didn't seem to do much.

What do you mean?

There are light ray billboards in the default billboards directory. Maybe these are what you are looking for?

I think what she meant was to give the effect of light hitting the glass. You can just light up the area at the back of the window. And by the back I meant the outside part.

Awesome! So I found it in the billboard, and the lightray is just kind of spinning around at this point.

Yep. Select your Billboard once it has been placed, then click the drop down box that says "Billboard Type" then change that to FixedAxis. That should allow you to get it into a position you want Smile

Got it! So in terms of putting in the light rays, is there an ideal method for placement? Like right now, I'm attempting to kind of put a box around the outline of the window, but it's looking a bit strange.

I usually outline the window with billboards (turn off the grid-snapping when you do this by clicking the little U-shaped magnet) and, if necessary, place a dimmer 'X' in the center and one billboard parallel to the window (covers the entire window) like this:
Spoiler below!

They're blue so they're easier to see

which ends up looking like this in game:

Just make sure you don't have any gaps between billboards

Oh wow... My jaw just hit the floor. Is that fixedaxis or anything else? (Can't try it out for myself atm)
