RE: Gothic - Slanderous - 01-26-2014

Personally Gothic II with add-on is my favorite, I liked the first part as well, but I don't really like Gothic III and Gothic IV.

RE: Gothic - eliasfrost - 01-27-2014

I tried to play Gothic 2 when I was a kid but the difficulty was super high so I gave up after a few sessions. Then I tried it again but without the Night of the Raven(?) expansion and it was a lot easier, did they boost the difficulty with the expansion or something? Because I remember that game was breaking me when I first played it (with TNotR).

RE: Gothic - Yuhaney - 01-27-2014

With the expansion it's like twice as hard.

Aw, here I was hoping I'd just grown wiser..

Oh, yeah sorry Traggey. Next time I will remember to use spoilers.
But this images aren't that big to freeze the browser.Wink

Yeah, Gothic III and IV are not as good as the first two, but not bad games though.

Gothic II AddOn "Night of the Raven" will also make the game a bit harder. Totally re-balancing the skill-system. A NPC demands double experience to teach you a skill from a certain level.

But I think the changes are good. You will no longer be able to learn everything. Spend your experience more with care! And the new locations/quests are really worth to play the AddOn. I would never recommend playing the game without AddOn.

I like Gothic I more because of the murky atmosphere. Gothic II was more colorized with its green vegetation and blue sky. But in the temple ruins and dungeons there's still the epic atmosphere.

RE: Gothic - Googolplex - 06-29-2014

Sorry for the double-post, but I have updated the fixes with a lot of new improvements from the russian Gothic community:

Main modifications:
• Package Adaptation for work with WinXP, WinVista, Win7, Win8, WinBlue;
• Package Adaptation for support of "GOTHIC1", "GOTHIC2: Classic", "GOTHIC2: The Night Of The Raven" considering all changes and corrections;
• Automatic dynamic memory and system files patching for all versions of supported games;
• Surround sound system integration - X3DAudio - for all versions of supported games;
• The package uses own *.INI file with partially modifying internal options for all versions of supported games.

Graphics:
• High resolution support;
• Adjusted FOV Hor+;
• Increased world, NPC, portals render distance;
• Balanced correspondence of map sides;
• Ability to shut off LOD;
• Fixed bug with disappearing objects/models when turned on tesselation.

Stability:
• Increased min texture cache threshold;
• Disabled odd stream for resource manager;
• Disabled cache unloading when minimizing the game;
• Modified low FPS and showing window frame in full-screen mode on Windows 8 and 8.1.

Video:
• Modified scaling duplication in video playback;
• Disabled limitation video file resolution.

Sound:
• Surround audio support on base of X3DAudio/XAudio2.

Virtual file system:
• Highly increased game start and load speed.

Other:
• Fixed problem of game start on Windows 7 over rundll32.exe;
• Fixed problem of game start over Logitech SetPoint driver;
• Fixed problem of camera hitch and disappearing textures on NVIDIA cards;
• Disabled FPS limitation;
• Repaired options of F8 key in test-mode MARVIN;
• Game starts in 32-bit color range;
• Added ability to set key auto-repeat speed;
• Repaired disability to activate the plug in the Temple of Sleeper;
• Added ability to change game Splash-screen (loading screen);
• Partially modified key bindings;
• Increased max polygons in models;
• Added set model spin speed;

The greatest improvements are the 25 FPS lack removal of Gothic 1, the video playback in fullscreen and a support for really high resolutions! Now I was able to increase the global view range of Gothic 2 with a multiplier of 6, where you can see a lot more distance. The system compatibility for modern OS also has been improved.

For people who haven't played Gothic yet, it is highly recommended to download the updated fixes.

Oh god, this is my favourite game ever. I grew up playing it, and it gives me a lot of inspiration up to now ! Even in making custom stories for Amnesia. I'm really glad that you started this thread Big Grin

Ps. Where you from ? I'm from Poland, and Gothic is quite popular here.
