Falling through the floor - katemonster - 09-11-2014

Hi,

I installed Amnesia today because I wanted to play a custom story, Late Night Drink. When I loaded the game, I was in a room, and everything was fine. I exited the room, and as soon as my feet left the room and crossed into the hall, I fell through the floor. I waited for the darkness to kill me, and respawned, and reproduced the same issue twice in a row before closing the game and re-opening. I re-started the game, and the original issue was gone! But a few steps from there were stairs, and I fell through the stairs and was then stuck. Had to quit. Is this a known issue?

This sounds like a missing assets issue. This section of the forum is more related to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, not CS troubleshooting, but given the problems, I believe that you are missing assets, either with Amnesia or A Late Night Drink itself.

Where did you get the game from?

Where did you download A Late Night Drink? Are you certain you downloaded all contents? Do you have Amnesia's 1.2 (sometimes called 'Justine') patch?

Have you experienced any similar problems in Amnesia: The Dark Descent?

Could you run the Custom Story again, and when the problem occurs, exit the game, then navigate to the hpl.log file and post it here? The appropriate directory can be found looking at the Troubleshooting Guide at Problem X.

Sounds odd how it happened the first time you started the game but not the second, in the same spot. Does this happen in the original game? If I am to guess, it's either some corrupt file that causes certain solid objects to not be solid, or perhaps there are just these issues with A Late Night Drink. Because it's custom made, we can't really say if it's flawless or has issues.

Missing assets doesn´t sound right. I would agree if the problem was consistent, but it´s not. Two different runs of the game engine produced different results. I can continue testing, I suppose.

As for the general question of the stability of this particular CS, I know other users have played the mod in Windows with zero issue. I don´t know of anyone else who´s played in Linux.

So you're playing it in Linux? I don't think that should be an issue. The game runs pretty much identically on all systems, but I guess there might be something. If that is the issue, it's probably not the story itself.

There have been a few posts lately about Amnesia having incompatiablity to the point of no run on Ubuntu 14.04. While I am uncertain whether you are using Ubuntu or not, it may mean that there may some issues with Linux.

Could you fall through the floor again, then post the hpl.log file located at: .frictionalgames/Amnesia/Main/ please?

If I can't identify an error from that, worse comes to worse, I'll attempt to recreate it. Smile
