Regarding ATI Radeon HD problem - Questions for people with Problem - Thomas - 06-08-2009

Hi all,

I am gonna take a stab at solving this problem this or next week and gonna start by buying a card so I can test problem. Before doing this I need to be 100% what cards that can reproduce the problem.

As far as I know there are two problems:
1) Objects and walls disappear in both Overture and Black Plague.
2) The game crashes in Messhall in Black Plague.

What I want of you is:
- Write what graphics card you have (as detailed as possible)
- Operating System
- The driver version used.
- What errors you have encountered.

I myself have a ATI Radeon 2600 HD (bought to solve a previous ATI related bug...) so it cannot be HD cards in general. Because of that I need to gather as much information as possible so I know I will buy the correct best card to reproduce.

Please try and keep this thread as clean as possible, so that it is easy to see what cards have the problem. I will write once I have all the info I need.

Thanks for your patience!

My thread (with more information) can be found here.

From my thread but lightly modified;
I'm not sure if it's just me or not, but everywhere I look, it seems the people with these issues are using an ATi 2xxx series, or HD3xxx series card. Both of these series use the same core chip, as the HD3xxx seres is a rehash of the 2xxx series. The HD3xxx series just has a smaller die (from memory), so it just runs cooler and uses less power.

Might be something more direct for you guys to look into.

  • Graphics card: Sapphire HD 2600 XT, 512 MB GDDR3, DirectX 10, PCI Express, 2x DVI, TV out.
  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Business 64-bit, Service Pack 2.
  • Driver version: Catalyst Control Center 9.5
  • What errors you have encountered: Missing objects, partly-visible objects, invisible walls.

Edit: Turning off Catalyst AI doesn't fix the problem for me.

ATTENTION:
I have started some tests and confirmed that when Catalyst AI is off or set to standard there are no disappearing snow in the first snow level in Overture. Would be nice to hear if this works for all of you too.

However, there is still a problem of object suddenly getting the wrong scale and position, which seem completely random. I am working on this now.

Yes I can confirm this. With catalyst A.I. on, you'll get missing snow or yellow snow. Without, the snow is good but the other bad stuff still isn't gone.

Edit: Wait, I'm not sure about the missing snow, but I'm 100% certain I got yellow snow.

Graphics card: Sapphire HD 2600 XT, 512 MB GDDR3, DirectX 10, PCI Express, 2x DVI, TV out.
Operating System: Windows 7 x64 RC & Windows XP SP3 x86 (VL)
Driver version: Catalyst Control Center 9.5
What errors you have encountered: Missing textures, stretching textures (Spiking triangles going nuts everywhere) & Oversized objects at random.
Oh, and the barrel in the ship at the start of EP1 is flickering out of sight, depending on the viewing angle.

Catalyst AI thing didn't work, but disabling the Steam overlay gave me the ground back in the arctic level. Still messed up triangles everywhere though.

RE: Regarding ATI Radeon HD problem - Questions for people with Problem - Raz0rx - 06-08-2009

With Catalyst AI off, no snow was missing, but I went down and used the rod to open that metal door leading down even further and my game crashed to desktop at the end of the loading screen.

EDIT: Just tried with Catalyst AI on 'Standard' and I have the missing snow again.

An interesting picture I got when playing Black Plague yesterday.
