LIGHT HELP - G510s - 12-10-2014

when i put any source of light next to a wall it bleeds into the room next to it. how can i prevent that from happening?

RE: LIGHT HELP - Kreekakon - 12-10-2014

In a sense this problem cannot be "flawlessly fixed" simply due to the fact of how lights work in HPL2. They don't cast a beam of light which then interacts with the environment. It simply points to a specified area, and tells the whole area to "light up" regardless of what the rest of the environment looks like.

I can only say that something like this can only be prevented by putting more thought into designing your levels, and placement of lights so that something like this does not occur.

But hey! It's great that you noticed it!
Some make the mistake and just ram some light in there, thinking it's going to be ok.

Thing is, it won't.

Lightning in HPL takes some time, until you get used to it. Remember: There's no shame in having a bit more than just one point light. You can have smaller ones. And one big one in the middle of the room, to give the feeling that the light is dynamic and looks cool!

Play with it.

Actually!
There is a BLACK and if you put this behind your walls\floors\ceilings, the lights will NOT pass trough!
ONLY spotlights though!
Pointlight should be places more carefully.

Actually;
It IS the black plane :Filename="static_objects/technical/plane_black/plane_black.dae">
It can be found in Static_objects\Technical.
be free to use it.
HERE is WITH plane, you can see NO light is passing trough!

Yea...
Point lights was what he meant, I'm pretty sure.

You don't need to place the plane_black.mat plane between walls to make spotlights not go through. Just tick "Cast Shadows" and everything should be fine.

Or he can make the pointlight smaller that it doesn't leak into the another room.

Well...
I would suggest to USE shadows, making it WAY more beautiful and realistic.
AND, you WILL see the lights go trough teh walls and ceiling!.
I know, i have it in my maps, and this fixed all of them.
